What You'll Gain from Premarital Counseling

What You'll Walk Away With

Premarital counseling gives you time to talk about the things that matter before you're married. You'll work through communication, conflict, finances, family, faith, and intimacy while building practical skills you can use in your marriage.

You'll have a better understanding of each other, clearer expectations for married life, and practical tools for communicating, handling conflict, and working through important decisions together.

Greater confidence about entering marriage

You'll step toward your wedding day with clarity instead of anxiety, knowing you've done the real work of preparation.

Healthier communication habits

Practical ways to listen well, share honestly, and stay connected — even when the conversation is hard.

A shared financial vision

Aligned on budgeting, debt, and goals, with an approach to money that honors both partners and reflects your values.

Practical tools for resolving conflict

Healthy ways to disagree, de-escalate, and repair after tension — so conflict draws you closer instead of pulling you apart.

Clear expectations around family, faith, intimacy, and future goals

The unspoken assumptions surfaced and discussed, so there are fewer surprises after the wedding.

A deeper understanding of each other's strengths and differences

You'll see your partner — and yourself — more clearly, and learn to treat your differences as complementary strengths.

The Process

A Step-by-Step Look at the Process

Here’s what to expect from your first consultation through your final session.

02

See the Full Picture

Guided Counseling Sessions

Over five structured online sessions, you'll work through communication, finances, intimacy, faith, family dynamics, and shared goals. Your facilitator uses your assessment results to focus the conversations on your relationship.

04

Marriage doesn't stop at the wedding. You'll have access to resources and guidance to support your relationship beyond your premarital counseling and into married life.

We'll work on active listening, expressing needs without criticism, and staying connected when conversations get difficult. You'll learn practical ways to communicate clearly and handle conflict before it gets out of hand.

We'll talk about budgeting, debt, spending, financial goals, and how you want to handle money as a couple. We'll also discuss how your approach to money fits with your Christian values.

Using your relationship assessment, we'll look at your personality traits and how they interact as a couple. You'll learn to recognize each other's strengths, understand your triggers, and respond to differences with greater empathy.

We'll talk about emotional vulnerability, trust, physical affection, and ways to stay connected throughout your marriage. We approach intimacy from a Christian perspective that honors marriage.

We'll discuss boundaries with extended family, relationships with in-laws, family traditions, and the expectations you each bring into marriage. If children are part of your family, we'll also address blended family dynamics.

We'll talk about prayer, Scripture, church involvement, spiritual leadership, and differences in denominational backgrounds. You'll have space to discuss how you want faith to shape your marriage and home.

Real Conversations

Common Conversations We Help Couples Navigate

Every couple has questions and conversations they need to work through before marriage. Some are exciting. Others are harder to talk about. We'll help you work through them with practical guidance and a biblical perspective.

"We love each other, but we communicate very differently."

We'll help you understand why you keep getting stuck in the same conversations, listen without becoming defensive, and communicate more clearly when emotions are running high.

"We're worried about how we'll handle conflict."

Every couple disagrees. Together, we'll identify unhealthy patterns, practice healthier ways to resolve conflict, and learn how to repair after difficult conversations.

"Money has already caused some tension."

We'll talk through budgeting, debt, spending habits, financial priorities, generosity, and how to build a shared vision for your finances before they're tested by real life.

"Our families have different expectations."

Whether it's in-laws, holiday traditions, boundaries, or family dynamics, we'll help you navigate those relationships while building a healthy marriage that stands on its own.

"We grew up in different churches."

Different denominations don't have to divide your marriage. We'll explore your beliefs, expectations, church involvement, spiritual leadership, and how to build a shared life of faith.

"We're trying to decide if we're ready for marriage."

Premarital counseling isn't only for engaged couples. If you're seriously dating or considering engagement, we'll help you have the conversations that bring clarity before making a lifelong commitment.

"We're blending families."

Second marriages and blended families bring unique joys and challenges. We'll talk through parenting, co-parenting, expectations, boundaries, and building trust in a new family.

"One of us wants children sooner than the other."

Children, careers, where you'll live, and future goals all shape your marriage. We'll help you surface expectations, understand each other's priorities, and build a shared vision for the future.

"We're long-distance and wondering if online counseling will still work."

Whether you're living in different cities, different states, or even different countries, online counseling allows you to prepare for marriage together without putting your relationship on hold.

"We just want to start our marriage well."

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from premarital counseling. Many couples come simply because they want to build a stronger foundation before they say "I do."

Who We Work With

Who We Work With

We work with couples in many different seasons and circumstances. Whether you're planning your first wedding or starting over, we'll tailor our online premarital counseling program to your relationship.

Engaged Couples

With a wedding date on the calendar, we help you prepare for marriage itself, including communication, finances, intimacy, conflict, and the life you're building together.

Pre-Engagement Couples

Before the ring, we help you discern whether marriage is the right next step and surface the conversations that matter most before you commit.

Long-Distance Couples

Living in different cities, states, or countries? Online sessions allow you to prepare together even when you're geographically apart.

Second Marriages

Drawing on lessons from the past, we help you build a strong foundation for your next chapter while making space for what you've learned from previous relationships.

Blended Families

When children are part of the picture, we address parenting roles, co-parenting dynamics, and creating unity as a new household.

Military Couples

Deployments, PCS moves, and demanding schedules make flexibility important. Our online format fits the realities of military and traveling life.

Older Couples

Whether it's a first marriage later in life or a new beginning after loss, we tailor our guidance to the season you're stepping into together.

Interdenominational Couples

Different church backgrounds, worship styles, or traditions? We help you navigate faith differences and build a shared spiritual home.

Online Counseling

Virtual Premarital Counseling

It's natural to wonder whether online counseling can really prepare you for marriage. Here's how we address the most common concerns.

How does online counseling work?

Our sessions are structured and personalized to your relationship, with a facilitator guiding you through the conversations that matter most. You'll meet by live video and work through the same important topics you'd discuss in an in-person setting.

Will we still feel connected to our facilitator?

Yes. Sessions are live, face-to-face video conversations, not prerecorded modules. You'll meet with your facilitator in real time and have space for honest, personal dialogue.

Is online counseling private?

Sessions are conducted through secure video platforms. What you share is part of your private counseling conversations with your partner and facilitator.

What if we're in different locations?

That's exactly what online counseling makes possible. Whether you're in different cities, states, or countries, you can join the same session together from wherever you are.

Can we fit it into a busy schedule?

Online sessions eliminate travel time and make scheduling easier. You can meet in the evening, between commitments, or wherever life allows, together or from different locations.

The Research

The Research Behind Premarital Counseling

79%

Better Outcomes

A meta-analytic review by Jason Carroll and William Doherty examined research on the effectiveness of premarital prevention programs. The researchers found that the average person who participated in a premarital program was better off afterward than 79% of people who did not participate.

The review found that premarital programs produced immediate and short-term improvements in interpersonal skills and overall relationship quality.
